Apple iMacs Finally Refreshed With 8th Gen Intel Core CPUs And Add Radeon Vega GPU Options

Apple iMac

Yesterday, Apple refreshed its iPad mini family and introduced an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Air model. Today, it’s time for Apple turn to its attention to its oft-neglected iMac family, which hasn’t seen an update in nearly 700 days.

With today’s update, Apple is bringing some significant processor and GPU upgrades to the 21.5-inch and 27-inch variants of the iMac. Given nearly two years between upgrades, you shouldn’t be too surprised to learn that Apple has fitted its base 21.5-inch iMac ($1,299) with an 8th generation 3.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i3 processor, which are backed with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive. Graphics are handled by an AMD Radeon Pro 555X.

For $1,499, you’ll get an 8th generation hexa-core Core i5 along with a 1TB Fusion drive and a Radeon Pro 560X. Standalone options at this configuration include a 3.2GHz Core i7 ($200) and a Radeon Vega 20 ($350). With a maxed-out processor, GPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, you’re looking at $2,549.

If the larger 27-inch iMac is more to your liking, you’ll start off at $1,799 with a 3GHz hexa-core Core i5 with 8GB of RAM, a 1TB Fusion drive and a Radeon Pro 570X. The step-up preconfigured option runs $2,299 and includes a 3.7GHz Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 2TB Fusion drive and a Radeon Pro 580X. Like the smaller 21.5-inch iMac, there are a few standalone options including a Core i9 processor ($400), a Radeon Vega 48 ($450) and a 512GB SSD ($100).

Apple will begin shipping its refreshed 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs later this month.
