With the announcement of the new Sega Genesis Mini came a tease of just 10 of the 40 games that will be available to play on it.
This list will be filled out every time Sega announces any more games, which we believe they will announce in a bundle of 10 games over the coming months.

The Sega Genesis Mini, with its 40 games onboard, is shaping up to be an exciting proposition for any retro game fan. If you already have the other two classic consoles you will need this in your life.
The games that are available are:
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco the Dolphin was a real game changer when it first appeared on the Genesis. With its unique, underwater gameplay, — it took the traditional platformer and turned it on its head — Ecco was a game that caught the imagination of a lot of people, including me.
I am looking forward to playing this classic again on my big screen.
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Castlevania is apparently the eleventh game in the series and the first and only to appear on the Sega Genesis. The Castlevania series is fan favorite all around the world, spawning multitudes of games and even a Netflix show.
This is a great choice to tell people about early as games like this bring crowds of loyal fans into your arms.
Space Harrier 2
I know next to nothing about Space Harrier 2 except to say it looks like a terrible Space Invaders game and I am unlikely to ever actually play it on the Genesis Mini.
Some games look to be amazing retro classics, others, not so much.
Shining Force
Shining force is a pretty fun RPG. It’s a turn-based game where you get to control multiple people in an almost tactics style of gameplay. The mix of high fantasy and sci-fi is still visually high catching to this day. OK, not striking, it’s 8bit, but retro cool you could say.
Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
Dr. Robotnik, the antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog, got his own video game once upon a time. The mean bean machine is a cross between Gems on the Master System and Tetris. The beans fall from the sky and you have to connect to continue through the levels.
Simple enough premise, but hours of endless toil to complete it. Can’t wait to get stuck in once again.
Toe Jam & Earl
Toe Jam & Earl is another cult classic that, when you look back at the original game, is actually quite bad. What made the game a favorite was the irreverence the developers took with even their own characters.
Hopefully, we will see the second game, Return to Funkertron, in this set as well as it is a much more enjoyable game all around.
Comix Zone
I had never seen this game before today! How did I not play this game? it looks awesome! You are a comic artist trying to fight out of your comic which is cool, but then you can use the comic to move through the platforms.
I honestly cannot wait to give this a try! Are there sequels to this do you know? I want it in my life!
Sonic the Hedgehog
It always amazed me how Sega lost the console wars to Nintendo. When you look at the original Sonic the Hedgehog game and compared it to say Super Mario World — both were released at roughly the same time and on comparable machines — it’s clear that Sonic was the better game, with better graphics, and yet Nintendo was a firm favorite and still is.
Anyway, of course, Sonic is on the Sega Genesis mini, Sonic is Sega. I assume at least one or two more games will be on the Mini as well. We all want to see Tails after all, don’t we?
Altered Beast
Ahh, Altered Beast. Another terrible game masquerading as a cult classic. While the premise of the game was excellent, the gameplay mechanics were just awful. I honestly can’t wait to show my 12-year-old kid how hard his Dad had it when he was young.
Saying that though he plays Roblox, so maybe he is used to terrible games. We shall see.
Gunstar Heroes
Gunstar Heroes is another game I hadn’t heard of until today, but it actually looks like a lot of fun. It has a Contra vibe mixed with childlike manga heroes, with just a pinch of Streets of Rage mixed in.
I’m looking forward to seeing this on the Genesis Mini as these kinds of game were my jam back in the ’90s.
What other games do you want to see?
While we are waiting for the other 30 games to drop tell us, what games would you love to see in this list? I know I want California Games and Out Run at the minimum, but there are a lot of potential games out there to hope for.
