Coming to you from Christopher Frost Photography, this great video takes a look at the Tamron SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD lens. A wide-aperture 35mm lens is one of the most useful many photographers can have: for portraitists, it provides a wider field of view while still having narrow depth of field. On the other hand, for events and wedding shooters, it gives you two extra stops of light over a standard 24-70mm f/2.8. The Tamron looks to be a great option, with four low dispersion elements to limit aberrations, three aspherical elements to reduce distortion, BBAR-G2 coating to control flares and ghosting and improve contrast, and an Ultrasonic Silent Drive autofocus motor. The lens also features moisture resistance and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm for smooth bokeh. At $899, the Tamron lens comes in at about half the price of the equivalent Canon and Nikon lenses, making it a very intriguing option. Check out the video above for Frost’s full thoughts.
